Bruce, Lara & Oliver

Loving Mom and Dad to Oliver, our amazing FCR

Opinions please and Buttons arrived in just 5 days!!!

I just got home and realized our "They can talk bundle" was sitting on the doorstep! So..... this would be day 3 of Oliver's introduction to the LR buttons the have down for "outside" "water" and "walk".

Opinions please... Should I switch over now to the FP buttons as these will be the ones we will be wanting to use and have a full set of or should I keep the larger buttons moving forward and maybe keep them at the doors and water bowl and use the FP buttons on a main board setup once we get to that point?

Oliver has in no way used nor really respond to the buttons over the past 3 days so I do not it will be detrimental if I change them now.

Intro and starter question about sent work and AAC

My GF Lara and I have had Oliver for 3 years now. We brought him home at 8 weeks and have been doing one form of training or another weekly ever since. He has done all his obedience training, a year of agility and weekly Lara, for the past year has been taking him to sent class. He is rather adept in scenting and we think he really loves the searching and learning aspect of the work. He is a Flat Coated Retreiver from a long line of show and working gun dogs so he has the "working" mentality and becomes a handful when we are not giving him the time and problem solving puzzles he seems to crave. As many others, I saw Bunny and her Mom on the web and wondered how well Oliver would do as he is VERY expressive when asking, requesting, begging and DEMANDING the things he needs to keep sane ;-). I then found Christina Hunter via her fantastic interview with Alie Ward (MUST listen to) on Ologies with Alie Ward https://www.alieward.com/ologies/speechpathology and found out about her new book "How Stella Learned to Talk". I immediately ordered the bookΒ  (finished it in a few hours) and ordered the large bundle from FP. Too bad there will be a delay in getting the buttons but I have already started putting the list of words we want to teach him to use.

A (many actually) big question we have is has anyone tried to pair sent work with button communication? Lara as just started "people" searching, with a sock and I would love it if we could maybe give him a sock and he could answer with "Bruce's sock" or ask for a search practice session with asking for "findit, birch". Does anyone else here to sent work and in any way incorporate it with speech?

I will have many more questions but thought I would throw this out for now...
