Norma, Max and Milton

Full sentences on a button

We found we'd spend a lot of time trying to figure out some of the words Max was using so I recorded a few sentences such as "I want to go for a walk", "I want food" and "I want a hug". Learning these buttons went quite well and he seems happy to use them and uses them appropriately. Last night we moved the board onto a chair so he'd leave them alone and he got very upset until we put the board back down.Β He is keen to express himself and even his non-board vocalizations have changed. He sounds more plaintive whereas before he was more gruff.
Yesterday morning he vanished and next thing we heard "Milton" and Milton jumped up and ran to him. I now suspect they are plotting something.
Learning with buttons has definitely changed Max's life and he's loving the power.

Max clear about what he wants :-)

We have made good progress this week using correct words in proper sequence. At the beginning, Max used Want as a catch-all for anything he wanted. We started paying very close attention and modelling buttons that could be what we suspected he was after. He will now use 'Want and Hungry' or 'Want and Walkies', 'Want and Bedtime'. And, bonus, now he will spontaneously use the 'Love You' button and look at us to offer praise. πŸ₯°

Daddy Walk

Tonight Max was interested in the buttons and we sat with him to demo where the words are placed on the board. After several random tries he walked away then right back and pressed Daddy, walk! We reinforced immediately and took him for a walk. He needed to poop! πŸ˜ƒ
This is first evidence he understands and uses the buttons to get his thoughts across. So proud of our little munchkin.

Max and Milton

Hi, we're new to this forum and teaching words to the doggos. This learning was intended to Max who is highly vocal dog. However,Milton, who is a Cocker Spaniel, has taken to the process with gusto. They are both approximately 20 months old and we've had them since they were 10 weeks old.
I'm hoping folks teaching multiple animals to use buttons can chime in with thoughts or advice.
Looking forward to meeting everyone and this awesome learning path.
