Introduction

I’m Marti Mullen and I have two learners. Bolt is a 2 year old Australian Shepherd and his new baby sister to be just turned 4 weeks old; also an Aussie. We are picking her up in 3 weeks so my goal is to do the preparation so I can start her with the buttons as soon as we return home.

I just ordered my buttons and am just getting up to speed to be ready to start when they arrive.Β

I have a background in dog training as I was in search and rescue for 13 years with my first two Aussies and I also have taught pets and work specifically with behavioral issues. In addition to that, I have been studying animal cognition and ethology on my own for quite awhile and am really excited about this research. Reading Fout’s Next of Kin years ago was a real moment of change for me and I have been fascinated with communication since then.

Bolt was my class dog when he was 6 months - meaning he helped me teach my pet dog classes and socialization play. He is very food motivated and has been doing targeting specifically since he was a young puppy. He is training currently for competitive nosework and starts his herding lessons this month after a delay because of the pandemic. Bolt has chosen to be my husband’s dog but he is perfectly happy to work for me if there is a payoff. My husband will be learning to work with the buttons also.
