β€œWhy”

πŸ‘‹ πŸ₯‰ 🎬 πŸ”˜ πŸ—ƒοΈ πŸ—¨οΈ πŸ•
Hello everyone! Lovely to meet you all!
So grateful and overjoyed to be part of this community every day.

We have started the AAC journey about a month ago and now my learner, Copper, is actively and regularly using 20+ buttons. We deliberately chose the most β€œuseful” ones for the current setup in order for him to better communicate us on with his needs and desires. He’s also able to express his feelings/emotions, observations/descriptions and opinions with short phrases, so I’m planning to add some more advanced concepts.

For question words, he knows β€œwhat” and β€œwhere” and β€œ?”.Β
I was wondering if any learners here have modelled β€œwhy”, and how did you model it / explain it to your learner? I haven’t introduced it yet but trying to think of a way to avoid confusion with β€œwhat”.
Causality might be one of the most abstract concepts i can think of for animal learners, other than time and episodic memory.

Thank you!

Anyone else based in Hong Kong?
Copper and I are currently based in HK and we’ve formed an Instagram chat group (click to go to our profile!) with other HK learners, and international frens as well!
I’m hoping to connect with locals and hang out somedayπŸ₯°
