Hi guys! I’m currently a full time dog mom and house remodeler, spend most of my time now working on updating a 50 year old house we just got handed down! I have two learners, but only one registered for now (the β€œsmarter” one πŸ˜†)

Using OUTSIDE to take things from her sister

So! I don't know if any multiple pet households have experienced something like this, but we have two dogs here. Olive (my primary learner) knows that Pippa loves going outside and will get up to go out any time we offer to let them out.
Β
Olive also asks us to take things she wants from Pippa by coming up to us, stomping her foot, saying "hmmm" and then staring at us and then at whatever Pippa has, usually a toy or treat. It's very obvious when Olive is waiting for Pippa to be done or if she is wanting something she has.
Β
Recently, she has been pressing OUTSIDE so we get up to let them out, coming to the door with Pippa to "be let out" but standing a few feet away, waiting till we hook up Pippa to let her out (when we are at the condo we have to leash them to let them out back) and then running away to go take whatever it is that Pippa had that she wanted. So I know it's not technically contextually appropriate since she doesn't want to go outside, but she wants the outside action to happen, so she definitely is using it for the right reason to get the outcome she wants because she wants Peep to go outside. She has done this a few times now to get different treat toys Peep has.

We are starting to teach her buttons for PIPPA and CHARLIE (her bunny brother), and I'm curious to see if she will start saying Pippa Outside/Want Pippa Outside, or if she is smart enough to know that we won't fall for that or listen to her if she is asking for an action to happen to her sister only.Β

It's kinda crazy to me to think that she can play that kind of mind game to get what she wants and I definitely think it's kinda funny (poor Pippa, though!). I don't know if anyone has any similar events happen, but I think it's really neat to see their thought processes and different ways they use their words!

Button spamming

Hi all! Running into my first snafu with these buttons as my girl decided that β€œball” and β€œplay” are awesome since they make me play with her and give her attention. I’m using the opportunity to introduce the concepts of β€œnow” and β€œlater”, but when she keeps going at it (usually presses it 3-5 times a few times until she moves on to doing something else and then might come back to it), do you keep repeating the β€œball later/no ball now” or just ignore it after the first few times? Should I pick up the buttons? She gets sad/mad when I take them away. Any advice would be appreciated!Β
